Chitra Sridhar has been teaching and performing both Indian classical dance - Bharatanatyam, and Carnatic music for the past 18 years. She is a student of Karnataka Kalashree Guru Rangashree, learning the Vazhuvoor style in the lienage of stalwarts Guru Narmada and Guru Padmini Ramachandran. Chitra has been fortunate to receive further instruction from the master of abhiunya Guru Brugha Bassel and advanced training from Guru Minal Prabhu, Kalakshetra. 

 

Chitra has also received extensive training in Carnatic music. Her music gurus have been eminent musicians in Bangalore, Guru Govindswamy (a direct disciple of Sri. Lalgudi Jayaraman) and Guru R.K Srikantan. She has also received advanced guidance from Smt. D.K Pattammal ,Chennai. 

Class Description

Chitra provides traditional training in both these art forms to interested students starting age 4. As an artist who never dilutes classicism, Chitra brings out the essence of classical dance, focussing on excellent technique and graceful abhinaya. Her musical training allows her to teach with a more holistic approach. As a Carnatic musician, Chitra provides thorough training in the basics of vocal music and later advanced training in swaras, neraval, alapana rendition. Through her school Nirvana Academy for Indian arts, she has helped build artistic sensitivity, appreciation and understanding of cultural traditions in the community.
